LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The city of Laurel has proclaimed Friday, Feb. 5, as Wear Red Day to raise awareness of heart disease in women.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in America, but it can be prevented with education and action.
Women all across the country will be wearing red Friday in an effort to bring awareness and attention to this deadly disease.
"If you know the signs and symptoms of something that's going on with your heart, hopefully you'll get to a physician who will tell you, evaluate you," said Faye Jackson, coordinator of Wear Red Dress Laurel. "I have a friend who received a heart transplant and this is dear to me for her too, so we just need everybody to know what heart disease will and can do."
There will be a luncheon Friday at noon held at the Eastern Star building on Buchanan Street.
The public is invited to attend.
