Storm damage causes power outages to Southern Pine members

Taylorsville, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from Southern Pine Electric Power Association.

Southern Pine crews from Newton, Taylorsville and Brandon are working in the Newton and Jasper county area tonight following significant damage to our power lines from a possible tornado Tuesday afternoon.

As of 5 p.m., there were more than 1,200 outages in our territory, with 583 in Jasper County and 533 in Newton County.

Much of the damage to our lines and equipment was near the intersection of Highway 15 and Highway 504.

Rebuilding the damaged area will likely take several hours. We thank our members for their patience as our crews work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power.

Anyone who sees a downed power line should not approach it, but call 911 immediately.

Southern Pine, a member owned not-for-profit cooperative, services more than 66,000 meters in 11 counties in central and south Mississippi.

We will provide restoration updates on our Facebook page and Twitter account.
