Man charged with two counts of sexual battery

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

On January 11 the Jones County Sheriff’s Investigators received information regarding a possible sexual battery case involving a 13-year-old.

According to a new release issued by the department, the victim’s mother stated she had come across some information belonging to her daughter that made her suspicious of inappropriate behavior between the juvenile and suspect Ocie Smith, 30. 

A forensic interview was scheduled and conducted with the victim. 

Two separate occasions of inappropriate sexual encounters were revealed between the juvenile and Smith, according to the department.

A warrant for Smith’s arrest was issued. 

With the help of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Smith was taken into custody at a residence in Louin, and charged with two counts of sexual battery.

Smith’s initial appearance is Monday at the Jones County Justice Court at 2 p.m.
