POPLARVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

Hundreds of women in South Mississippi visited the Poplarville campus of Pearl River Community College Saturday to get valuable information about living healthier lives.

They got free health screenings and took part in other activities during the 10th annual Women's Health Symposium.

The event featured an art walk and a luncheon, hosted by Hattiesburg restaurateur Robert St. John and artist Wyatt Waters.

"We provide many opportunities (for women) to learn about cancer screenings, they receive a bone density test, and it's a great opportunity for the public to find out more about their health and for women to learn about how they can take care of themselves," said Jana Causey, vice-president of Forrest County Operations for PRCC.

About 500 women attended the symposium.

The campus of William Carey was calm as the clock struck midnight and the date turned to January 21, 2017. Then-freshman soccer player Taylor Gautreaux turned in at about 1 a.m. She would be awoken two hours later to the sounds of a violent tornado just outside her dorm room wall.
