HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

An organization that supports wounded servicemen has received $4,000 from a Marion County veterans group that raised the money during an annual picnic in 2015.

On Thursday, the Columbia Veterans Picnic Committee presented a check to the Wounded Minutemen of Mississippi at the Marion County Courthouse.

The funds were raised during a third annual veterans picnic at the Columbia Water Park Nov. 14, 2015.

Last year, the committee gave $3,000 to the same organization.

Every year, it's been up a thousand dollars," said Mark Retcho, chairman of the Veterans Picnic Committee. "I'm looking for the day when we have such a picnic that we can hand somebody a check for close to $10,000."

"The money will go to wounded veterans that live within the State of Mississippi, we don't hold out anything," said Johnny Sellers, co-chair of the Wounded Minutemen of Mississippi. "One hundred percent of that money will go to the selected wounded veterans."

In the last five years, Wounded Minutemen of Mississippi has helped about two dozen service personnel.

The organization hosts a golf tournament each year to raise funds.
