HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg was named one of America’s best adventure towns for National Geographic.

National Geographic recommends visitors wanting to explore the city with rich, cultural roots to browse grand Tudor and Victorian homes, attend a play or concert at the historic downtown Saenger Theater or drive along the Freedom Summer Trail.

Another adventure is biking along the Longleaf Trace, which is 41 miles long and was created from an abandoned railroad line. National Geographic also suggests visitors take a ride down Kayak Black Creek, which is a river that runs along the De Soto National Forest’s Black Creek Hiking Trail.

Crescent City is the place to eat gourmet Southern comfort food, according to National Geographic. The restaurant serves favorites such a fried green tomatoes and fried Mississippi Delta catfish.

And when you and your family are worn out from a day of fun, National Geographic recommends you stay at Ash-leah Manor, a bed and breakfast that is budget-friendly.
