Bond set for Laurel man who had standoff with police

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The Laurel man accused of shooting into vehicles, which led to a standoff with authorities, was in court Monday for his initial appearance.

Floyd Burk West Jr., 56, went before Jones County Justice Court Billie Graham.

West was charged with attempted aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied motor vehicle, along with other misdemeanor charges. His bond was set at $100,000, cash bond only.

Around 12:30 a.m. Friday, officers of the Laurel Police Department were dispatched in reference to shots fired at a residence.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a man barricaded inside a residence where he had fired multiple shots from a bedroom window at various targets.

Officers were able to negotiate with the suspect who later surrendered himself to officers. Authorities recovered around twenty firearms from West's residence.
