HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hattiesburg School Board met Friday to discuss plans to navigate through its current financial troubles.

The school board went into executive session and discussed making changes that will affect the district’s personnel.

Greg Ladner said these changes are unclear at this time, and he will begin to contact people who are affected.

“We want to make sure and let our people know what is happening prior to them reading it or seeing it any news format,” Ladner said.

WDAM released a statement in December from Marcus Cathey discussing the 2014-2015 budget.

"The district's expenditures exceeded revenue by over $3 million. This resulted in an ending fund balance of approximately $800,000 in the general funds," Ladner said.

Communications Director Jas N Smith said the board has already stopped making purchases and hiring staff to save money.
