Hattiesburg – Merit Health Medical Group is proud to welcome pediatrician, Astrid Compton, M.D. Dr. Compton will see pediatric patients in a new location at 7100 U.S. Highway 98.
Dr. Compton comes to Merit Health Medical Group after working as a pediatric hospitalist at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and received her doctorate of medicine from Tulane Medical School. She completed a pediatric residency and pediatric intensive care fellowship at University of Tennessee-Memphis. Dr. Compton is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
"We're excited to welcome Dr. Compton back to Hattiesburg and to add to the pediatric care we provide to the Pine Belt area," said Mike Neuendorf, Chief Executive Officer of Merit Health Wesley.
Merit Health Medical Group's pediatric clinic provides a full range of primary and preventive pediatric care to children in the Hattiesburg community from birth to 21 years of age and is now in two convenient locations. John Gaudet, M.D., Alice Myers, M.D., and L. Claiborne Stanford, M.D. will continue to see patients at 39 Franklin Road on the Merit Health Wesley campus.

U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force made an arrest in a sexual battery case involving a Hattiesburg juvenile. Sean Turner was arrested in Lumberton on Monday. Turner was wanted by the Hattiesburg Police Dept. in connection to a Sunday incident that involved an eight-year-old. According to Hattiesburg Police Lt.
