The Do You Know Foundation of Mississippi held an MLK Memorial Service and scholarship award ceremony at Christ’s Church of Laurel.
This year’s theme was “Non Violence: A time to act and a way to live.”
Three scholarships were given to students of different racial backgrounds and ethnicities.
“This is the living legacy that Dr. King put forth that all men are created equal and we are an equal opportunity nonprofit organization,” President Pinky Jones said.
“We search for students regardless of race, creed, color, or religion.”
“The biggest focus that we have in this organization is to bring the community together, but most of all is to reinforce Dr. King’s legacy to our next generation,” Secretary Treasurer Anne Clayton said.
On Monday, the organization will hold a prayer breakfast at the Cameron Center in Laurel.
Judge Dal Williamson will be the keynote speaker.
The organization sponsored a series of MLK events that began on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
