LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

A Laurel organization that has hosted events honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. for almost 30 years is finalizing plans for an annual parade which celebrates his life and work.

The Do You Know Foundation of Mississippi is sponsoring its 27th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade on Saturday, Jan. 16.

It will take place at 10 a.m.

It will begin at the Sawmill Square Mall and follow the route of the Laurel Sertoma Christmas Parade.

The foundation is also hosting art, poetry and essay contests for grade school students next week.

"I know we have received over 50 entries into the parade," said Pinky Jones, president of the Do You Know Foundation of Mississippi. "We will be having some horses and we will be having some dance groups, some performing majorettes."

The foundation will also host a Memorial Service Sunday, Jan. 17 and a prayer breakfast on Monday, Jan. 18.
