Joe's Viewpoint: A New Year and new beginning

Joe Sciortino Joe Sciortino
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

This week marks the first full week of the New Year. Many of us probably started with new resolutions, some of which have already been broken.

Why do we do this? Mostly because the start of the New Year represents hope and the chance of a new beginning.

All of this has me thinking about new beginnings for the Pine Belt. And that is where you come in.

I want to hear from you about your hopes and dreams for the Pine Belt. What would you like to see improved or changed in our community? Or maybe, what would you like our leaders to focus on this year?

Send me an email and I will share some of your comments in future editorials.

This is today’s Viewpoint.

After losing the first two games of the season by a combined five points, Collins has won 12 consecutive games to advance to the class 2A South State title. The Tigers (12-2) defeated Bay Springs 22-8 on Friday to advance to a south state matchup against Taylorsville (13-1). Collins scored twice in the fourth quarter to overcome the Bulldogs on the road. "I feel great," said Collins head coach Eric Booth, a former USM running back.
