Southern Miss Opens C-USA Home Play Thursday against Charlotte

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

USM Press Release

The Southern Miss men’s basketball team opens its home Conference USA schedule Thursday night when they entertain Charlotte in a 7 p.m., contest at Reed Green Coliseum.

The Golden Eagles (3-9 overall, 0-1 C-USA) look to get back on track after falling in their C-USA opener last Saturday at Louisiana Tech, 87-57. Still, Southern Miss continues to play well after winning three of its last six contests.

For this game, fans can purchase two bleacher seats for $20 as the ticket promotion, while the first 500 in attendance will receive a gold Southern Miss T-shirt. The premium food item for the evening at the concession stand is a chili cheese dog for $4.

The Charlotte game marks the first of a two-game homestand for the Golden Eagles. The 49ers come to Hattiesburg with a 3-10 overall mark and 0-1 in league play, dropping a 74-65 decision at Old Dominion last Saturday in their last outing.

“If you look at their schedule, their record is not very good, but when you look at who they’ve played - out of their 10 losses, probably seven of them are against (Power 5 Conference) schools and all on the road,” said second-year Southern Miss coach Doc Sadler.

Redshirt senior Kourtlin Jackson (Des Moines, Iowa), who is averaging 15 points and six rebounds over his last three games, leads the Golden Eagles in scoring this season at 10.6 points per contest. Redshirt junior Khari Price (Slidell, La.) ranks second on the team’s scoring charts at 9.5 points per contest, while also leading the squad at 3.4 assists per game.

Freshman guard Andrien White, paces the 49ers’ scoring efforts at 11.3 points per game, while redshirt junior Braxton Ogbueze ranks second at 11.2 and redshirt senior Bernard Sullivan rounds out the Charlotte double-digit scoring club with a 10.5 scoring average. Senior Joseph Uchebo adds 9.5 points per tilt for Charlotte, while also leading the club in rebounding at 8.8 per contest.

The All You Can Eat Section returns to Green Coliseum for this game and also will be available for Saturday’s home tilt against Old Dominion. Tickets for this area, located in Section P, are $25 each and include admission to the game, plus unlimited hot dogs, popcorn, nachos and drinks throughout the contest. Tickets may be purchased by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or by visiting SouthernMissTickets.com.

There are also still suites available for Thursday’s game for $250. The suite purchase includes 10 admission tickets and access to the food available for the All You Can Eat section. If you are interested in acquiring a suite for this game, please call the Southern Miss Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK (8425).
