Woman found dead in Hub City home, death investigation underway

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Less than 24 hours after the Hub City's first homicide of 2016, Hattiesburg Police are conducting another investigation into the death of a woman Saturday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m. police responded to a call of an unresponsive female inside a home in the 700 block of Myrtle Street, just off Hutchinson Avenue.

Moments later, detectives and the Hattiesburg Police Crime Scene Unit were called to the scene to process the scene and assist in the investigation.

The female victim was pronounced dead at the home according to Forrest County Deputy Coroner, Lisa Klem.

The body will be sent to the State Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin according to Klem.

At this time, detectives are conducting interviews as a part of the ongoing investigation, but no arrests have been made.

The first homicide of 2016 occurred Friday night, and claimed the life of Anna Griffith, 39, of Hattiesburg. Police arrested Theopolis Schaffer, 64, in connection to the shooting and charged him with murder.

If you have any information regarding the ongoing death investigation, contact Hattiesburg Police or Metro Crime Stoppers at 601-582-STOP.
