UPDATE: Bond set for Hub City's first homicide suspect of 2016

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

One woman is dead and a man is charged with murder in the Hub City's first homicide of 2016.

Police responded to a call of shots fired just after 11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at Dumas Motel & Apartments at 214 Broadway Drive in Hattiesburg.

A woman suffering from a gunshot wound was transported to Forrest General Hospital where she later died.

Anna Griffith, 39, of Hattiesburg died of what appears to be a single gunshot wound, according to Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem.

Klem said Griffith was pronounced dead at Forrest General Hospital at 11:54 p.m. Friday night, and the body will be sent to the State Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy.

Theopolis Schaffer, 64, was arrested at the scene and booked into the Forrest County Jail a short time later.

Schaffer was charged with one count of murder, and he made his initial appearance Monday in a Forrest County Court where his bond was set at $1 million.

According to authorities, the incident appears to be domestic related, however the investigation is still ongoing.
