Several businesses, community organizations and leaders will come together to sponsor a free New Year’s Eve night trolley on Thursday night.
Two trolleys, operating from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., will make a route that includes Midtown, the Avenues and Downtown. Trolley rides will be free, and passengers can get on or off anywhere along the route.
State Representative Toby Barker said this is the third year of providing this service to city residents.
“Hattiesburg has great venues for music and entertainment, and we want our residents to enjoy all that our city has to offer,” said Barker. “However, we want them to be safe. I would encourage residents who plan on going out on New Year’s Eve to leave their car at home and take advantage of this free service.”
Sponsors for the 2015 New Year’s Eve trolley service include the Thirsty Hippo, Southern Beverage, Glory Bound Gyro, T. Michael Reed PA, Benny’s Boom Boom Room, the Shop Downtown, Southern Prohibition Brewing, the Dollar Box Showroom, Brewsky’s, Patio 44, Nick’s Ice House, the Hattiesburg Historic Downtown Association, Computer Karma and State Representative Toby Barker.
Andrea Saffle, Executive Director of the Hattiesburg Historic Downtown Association, said New Year’s Eve is a busy time for Downtown nightspots.
“Many of Downtown’s restaurants and bars will have great musical acts on New Year’s Eve this year,” said Saffle. “The trolley offers a safe opportunity to experience Hattiesburg’s unique culture, whether in Downtown, the Avenues or Midtown.
Grove Trolley & Taxi will provide transportation. The trolley’s path can be followed in real time on New Year’s Eve by clicking here.
