NEW AUGUSTA, MS (WDAM) -

Newly-elected officials in Perry County were sworn in to office during a ceremony at the Perry County courthouse Tuesday night.

Chancery Judge Johnny L. Williams administered the oath of office to all county officials, including the circuit and chancery clerks, the coroner, the supervisors and the new sheriff Mitch Nobles.

His deputies were also sworn in.

A special tribute was paid to retiring constable James Barnes for his four decades of service to the county.

"I feel great, this is something I've been wanting my entire career, my entire life, is to come back and serve the people of Perry County," said Nobles. "So, I'm very fortunate to be back in here."

Nobles and other county officials actually take office on Jan. 4.
