NWS confirms tornado in Covington County

PINE BELT -

An early morning tornado tore through the town of Seminary Monday. 

According to Stephen Wilkinson, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service, the tornado was classified as an EF-1 with max winds of 95 mph, and a track distance of 5.6 miles. .

Emergency management confirmed a roof was torn off of a home in Seminary on Ray Harvey Road. Two houses on Watts road were damaged, according to emergency management officials. 

A firework stand was destroyed, slinging debris across Highway 49. 

According to Emergency Management Director Greg Sanford, at least seven structures were damaged or destroyed by the storm.

Many traffic signs were ripped from the ground, and scattered along the shoulder of the highway as well. 

No injuries have been reported.

Parts of Highway 49 at Mississippi 590 were closed Monday morning to motorists as emergency management cleared debris.
