Golden eagles and Huskies goes head to head for first time ever

DALLAS, TX -

The Southern Miss Football team will play the Washington Huskies for the first time in football history on Saturday Dec. 26th. However, the Golden Eagles have faced off with Washington's head coach, Chris Petersen.

Petersen previously coached for Boise State. USM played Boise State four times from 2007-2013. Southern Miss lost all four of those contests.

USM Head Coach Todd Monken said he wanted to face a tough opponent in the bowl game. "I've got a lot of respect for what Chris has done," said Monken. "They've got a really good football team and are really playing their best football now."

Petersen acknowledged how much the Southern Miss program has changed since Monken's arrival at the school. "It's really impressive in the short period of time how much he has done."

Southern Miss enters their 23rd bowl game, and first bowl appearance in four seasons Saturday. Kick off is set for 1:20 in the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium.
