Hattiesburg police officers, firefighters and city officials pose with families helped by this year's, "Shop with a Kid for Santa."
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
Some Hattiesburg police officers and firefighters spent a rainy Tuesday night making Christmas happy for some needy children.
They treated about two dozen kids to a shopping spree at Walmart as part of the annual, "Shop with a Kid for Santa."
The Hattiesburg Police and Fire Association hosts the event, which gives kids a chance to get toys, clothing and other things they might not otherwise receive for Christmas.
"We go to the school districts and we talk to principals in all the area schools and they pick kids out that are needy, they have a disability, good grades, everything plays a big factor," said Chad Young, a motor officer for the Hattiesburg Police Department.
"We just enjoy coming out with the police department, helping these kids out," said Talmus Russell, a battalion chief with the Hattiesburg Fire Department. "It gives us a chance to give back to the community and we just really enjoy it, it's a fun time for us."
