COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) -

It was one year ago today that a devastating tornado tore through  Columbia, and parts of Jones and Jasper County, taking the lives of five people.

Communities rallied together during their Christmas holidays to clean streets, surround their neighbors with comfort, and rebuild.

A week after the tornado, WDAM partnered with three other Raycom Stations, WLBT, WLOX and WMC, to raise over $443,418.20 for tornado relief victims through a telethon called Hope, Help, and Healing.

After the telethon, donations were still being sent in weeks after the storm.

Those funds helped Columbia Strong buy 12 new homes for residents affected by the storm, 12 homes damaged were repaired, and 12 homes were completely rebuilt.

Today, we remember those that we lost, and celebrate the resilience of those who volunteered, and helped rebuild communities in the Pine Belt.

Watch the tribute video above, and click through the slideshow.

Be proud of how far your community has come in just one year.
