Residents of Columbia gathered at New Life Fellowship Church to commemorate the first anniversary of the deadly December 23 tornado.
Columbia Strong has completely rebuilt more than 40 homes and has repaired more than 100 homes.
“Today we’re being able to showcase what we’ve done for the community and help encourage those that continue to work in the community and just tell everybody that our job’s not done yet,” Columbia Strong Volunteer Coordinator Nik Ingram said.
“We’re still going to keep pushing. We’re still going to keep doing things in this community to make Columbia a better and safer place.”
Members of the Columbia community said they are grateful for how far they’ve come from 2014.
“Now we have a whole community tonight that’s turned around after a year saying thank you to the Lord for sparing us and getting us back on our feet again,” Senior Pastor Dr. Terry L. Weems said.
The volunteers rebuilding efforts have totaled more than two million dollars so far.
