Homes of Hope for Children in Purvis will expand its services.
The privately funded Christian Children’s home received a $200,000 grant from the Asbury Foundation of Hattiesburg in late November.
“The grant means the world to us because we’re getting ready to open up a third home next year,” Executive Director Michael Garrett said. “And so everything we asked for in this grant are things that we really need to have in place before we start serving more children next year.”
The grant will also provide three new 15 passenger vans, commercial grade mower, pole barn, walk-in freezer and a front gate.
Homes of Hope for Children also received a $200,000 donation in addition to the Asbury Foundation of Hattiesburg grant.
“That’s one of the exciting things about this grant,” Garrett said. “Not only did we get the $200,000 from the Asbury Foundation, but we had another individual who was doing a matching of $200,000 dollars at the same time."
That donation will also go toward the construction of the new home.
Homes of Hope for Children opened its first home in 2010.
