(The following is a press release from UBS.)
HATTIESBURG, MS— 'Tis the Season to Pay it Forward by donating blood with United Blood Services! During the holidays, it is critical to ensure there's enough blood available to meet the transfusion needs of patients. People get busy with holiday preparations and often don't include blood donation on their "to do" list, but the need for blood is constant. Pay it forward this holiday season by donating blood. You never know whose life you may impact. Even the smallest act of caring has the potential to turn a life around. It starts with YOU.
When you donate blood December 21- January 2, you will receive a 'Pay It Forward' long-sleeve T-shirt AND a FREE movie ticket voucher from Fandango, both items while supplies last.
After donating, we ask donors to post a selfie on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with #LifeFor3 and tag three friends to continue paying it forward by donating blood. Each blood donation saves three lives. Image the impact we can make by encouraging others to donate.
Schedule an appointment to donate by visiting www.BloodHero.com, or call 601-264-0743. For more information on donating blood, visit www.UnitedBloodServices.org.
Donors can donate at United Blood Services Donor Center located at 805 S. 28th Avenue in Hattiesburg. Holiday hours are: Monday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., CLOSED Christmas Day and New Years Day.
As always, all blood types are needed in order to prevent any blood type shortages from occurring. However, United Blood Services is experiencing an increased need for type O negative red cells and type AB plasma donations. Type O negative blood is the only type that can safely be given to patients of all blood types. Type AB is the universal donor for plasma, just as O negative is for red cells. We've seen the need for AB plasma grow as more hospitals expand their trauma care.
Donors can also visit www.UnitedBloodServices.org the day of their donation and click on the "Health History Questionnaire". This allows donors to complete the interview portion of their donation on-line, in the privacy of their home or office. Make sure to print your "Fast track donation ticket" and bring it with you to your donation.
