HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A generous Jones County child has given a special gift to help other children this Christmas season.

Bobby Wayne Simpson, 9 of Ovett, has donated his entire savings of $62.50 to the Hattiesburg Salvation Army.

He and his mother, Lori McGrew, visited the Salvation Army Center Wednesday to put the money into one of the organization's red kettles.

Simpson, who was paralyzed in an auto accident five years ago, said he heard on TV that the organization might fall short of its holiday fundraising goals and he wanted to help.

"It gives you hope in humanity," said Lt. Stacey Connelly, corps officer for the Hattiesburg Salvation Army, after receiving Simpson's donation.

To show its appreciation, the Salvation Army gave Simpson a T-shirt and a cape with a "hero" emblem on it.
