One block of Highway 42 in Hattiesburg was closed for about three hours Saturday, after a maintenance crew severed a natural gas line.
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
A gas leak on Highway 42 this morning prompted authorities to block off both lanes of traffic for one block.
Glen Moore, Director of Forrest County Emergency Management, said a maintenance crew replacing a storm drain severed a natural gas line around 9 a.m., forcing the closure of the Highway from Music Row to Cahal Street. Moore said there were no injuries and no one was evacuated.
About 30 gas customers lost service. Mississippi Power Company cut power to adjacent businesses as a safety precaution.
Moore said the road was reopened about 12:30, but Wilmut gas will remain on the scene making repairs.
