All-Star Football Game holds recognition banquet at USM

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The 29th Annual Mississippi vs. Alabama All-Star football game banquet was held at the Thad Cochran Center at USM Friday evening.

Prior to the gathering, practices concluded and family members and coaches were invited to attend the event.

"We're bringing families together from two great states," said Steve Savarese, executive director of Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA).

Mayor Johnny Dupree also spoke at the banquet about the importance of building relationships between the two teams.

"Its great for the two states to come together like we do and the way we do it now is we're gonna be in Alabama the next year and then Mississippi the following year," Dupree said. "So it's a great opportunity for us to build relationships for these young men and relationships with universities and other schools around here. I think I told them earlier, last year we were in Alabama, so Alabama won, and this year we're in Mississippi so I think everybody can figure out that mississippi is going to win!"

The two teams go head-to-head at noon at The Rock.
