The Hattiesburg Police Department is holding a toy drive at Ryan Chevrolet until Monday, Dec. 14.
HPD would like to bring a little bit of joy to some children in the area.
The department teamed up with folks at Ryan Chevrolet for help some kids at Christmas time.
The toys are going to be donated to children who may have been affected by domestic violence or homicide as well as children living in the children's shelter in Hattiesburg.
“Because we had quite a few kids that was being affected by domestic violence, by homicide,” HPD Lt. Jon Traxler said. “We just wanted to reach out to them and give back to them because when they did see the police it was in a negative light, we want it to be in a positive light when they see us now and try to bring joy back to them.”
Anyone who wishes to bring toys can drop them off at Ryan Chevrolet by Monday.
HPD asks for people to bring an unwrapped toy for kids five years old up to 17 years old.
The kids will be presented with the gifts at the police department during a Christmas Party on Dec. 22.
