HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Holiday Inn will soon replace the old Howard Johnson Hotel on Highway 49 South in Hattiesburg.
The city council approved a petition Tuesday, allowing a two-story variance for the building in order to make it five stories. The petition was filed by Alton Clingan, Jr. of Clingan & Associates on behalf of owner Ronnie Pittman.
The person representing the project at Monday's council work session said construction should begin in the next 10 days. The current structure is dilapidated with broken windows, fences and a lock and chain fence blocking entrance.
The new Holiday Inn will have small conference rooms for groups that do not need the large space offered by the Convention Center.
