HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The AIDS services coalition had their 15th annual walk for life raising awareness for HIV/AIDS. The message this year is simply "get the number to zero". The number zero represents the number of new cases the coalition hopes to see in 2016.
The group dressed in signature red shirts walked along Hardy Street holding signs and banners. Coalition Executive director Kathy Garner talked about the turnout saying "it means people understand the affect that HIV has on the community, and that they want to stop it."
Garner also stressed the importance of testing saying "you should be tested every year if you are sexually active, and just make it a part of your regular health care regimen."
