A Pearl River County man is facing a statutory rape charge for allegedly having sex with a 15 year old.
Joshua Martinez, 23 of Picayune was arrested Thursday night by Picayune Police officers at a quick stop on West Union road in Picayune.
According to Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri, the department received a complaint on Nov. 30 in regards to the matter.
“The complainant stated that her husband, identified as Joshua Martinez, allegedly had consensual sex with (a family member), sometime between June and July of this year,” Magri said. “The (family member) was 15 years old at the time of the incident.”
“The complainant stated that after speaking with the family member, it did happen, and it occurred at one of her husband’s friends houses located in Picayune,” Magri said.
After Martinez was arrested, he was transported to the Pearl River County Criminal Justice Center, where he was booked and charged with one count of statutory rape.
His bond was set at $30,000, and he has posted bail and been released.
Martinez was a former correctional officer at the Lamar County Jail who resigned in March 2015, according to Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel.
