South State Champions Turn Sights to Oxford

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The South State Champions from around the Pine belt will advance to Oxford to play for the High School Championships on December 4th and 5th.

In 6A Petal upset Meridian 36 to 28 to stay alive and fight for another week. Petal will face off with Starkville December 4th at 7:30 pm.

The defending 5A champs, Laurel, were handed a loss at home to Wayne County 55-27.  Wayne County will take on Oxford on December 5th at 7:30 pm.

Collins is attempting to pick up their fourth consecutive championship after defeating West Marion at home 40-36. Collins will play at 11 am on December 5th against Charleston High School.

2A defending champs, Bassfield, will make the trip as well after blowing out Bay Springs on the road 43-28. The 2A championship will be held on December 4th at 3 pm between Bassfield and East Webster.

Lumberton is no longer in the hunt after losing to Resurrection Catholic 23-8. The 1A championship will be held between Resurrection Catholic and Simmons at 11 am on December 4th.

All games will be played at Ole Miss’ Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford.
