A motorcycle crash on Reid Road at the intersection of Pine Drive on Saturday afternoon in the Powers Community left the nineteen year old rider seriously injured. Volunteer fire and rescue units from Powers and Glade responded to the incident at 2:20PM with Powers rescue and medical first responder units arriving first on scene.
The injured rider was discovered laying on the side of the road beside the crashed motorcycle suffering significant injuries requiring immediate medical attention. EMServ Ambulance Service arrived on the scene and the patient was placed on a backboard with spinal immobilization measures implemented. The patient was transported by EMServ to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment of serious injuries.
The rider was reported to be wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was able to tell first responders that he lost control of the motorcycle on Reid Road and crashed. In addition to Powers and Glade volunteer fire and rescue units, Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna and units with the Jones County Sheriff's Department, who are investigating the cause of the crash, responded to the scene.
This was the second crash in two days in Fire District 4 that Powers and Glade volunteer fire and rescue units along with Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna responded to. On Friday afternoon, a twelve year old was seriously injured in an ATV accident on Log Cabin Road, off of Township Road, in the Glade Community.
The injured patient was transported by EMServ Ambulance Service to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel with a Powers medical first responder riding along to assist the paramedic during patient transport. Units from the Jones County Sheriff's Department also responded to the incident and are investigating the cause of the crash.
