Applebee's restaurant hosts pancake fundraiser for animal shelter

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Volunteers with a Laurel organization that cares for homeless pets are thankful for people who came out Saturday morning to show them some support.

Southern Cross Animal Rescue, along with Applebee's Restaurant, hosted a pancake and sausage fundraiser.

Tickets were $5.

Folks not only got good food, but they also socialized with Santa Claus.  And a few children had photos taken with him.

"The financial support that people are willing to provide to us is invaluable," said Tia Cardwell, a board member for Southern Cross Animal Rescue. "We need that support to continue to help the animals and it means so much to us."

They're taking in a lot of animals, they have a lot of new puppies, they just need all the support they can get," said Anna Norris of Laurel. She was one of the people who dropped by for the fundraising event. "So, we wanted to come out early and just show our support any way we can."

Applebee's has hosted several other pancake fundraisers for Southern Cross Animal Rescue.
