The sun had not risen before shoppers swarmed stores in the Hub City on Black Friday.
Many came out for the markdowns, while others continued traditions.
"We've been doing this for 10 years," one man said about the tradition with his wife. "We save about $1,000 dollars. We have 19 grandchildren, and we will finish our Christmas shopping today."
Material Girls, a women's boutique, was scheduled to open at 5 a.m., but when they had a crowd waiting outside in the wee hours of the morning, they decided to open one hour early at 4 a.m.
"I love Material Girls, so why not?" a shopper said about the early shopping hours.
RetailMeNot.com estimates 55% of consumers shop on Black Friday, while SAS predicts 29 percent of shoppers will spend more than they did last year.
