USM students to host live performance of Poe stories, poems

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Fans of Edgar Allen Poe will soon have a chance to see an old-fashioned, live radio broadcast of his works, performed by Southern Miss students.

On Dec. 3 at 7 p.m., USM students in the Department of Theatre, along with students in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, will host "On the Radio with Edgar Allen Poe: A Live Theatrical Performance."

It will take place in the Tatum Theater in the Theater and Dance Building on the Hattiesburg Campus.

The performance will be done in live radio style, with sound effects created by students.

The performance is co-sponsored by USM and the National Endowment for the Arts, through a Big Read grant.

The Big Read is an initiative that encourages reading.

Seating in the theater is limited, so organizers are encouraging folks to get advance tickets. The show is free of charge.

You can get tickets at the Theater and Dance Building, or by calling 601.266.4999.
