The University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra presents its annual musical gift to the community -- the Holiday Choral Spectacular set for Dec. 1 and Dec. 3 at Main Street Baptist Church in Hattiesburg.
For more than a decade, this "sounds of the season" has delighted and amazed audiences with the scope of the orchestra and choral personnel involved. The concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Dr. Gregory Fuller, Dr. Lauren Calisto-Fowler, Dr. Webb Parker, and Dr. Jay Dean.
"This is an event people look forward to all year," said Fuller, director of choral activities. "This concert provides an opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate and relax while enjoying an evening of beautiful music during a very busy time of the year."
The program will feature the popular John Rutter's Gloria, a bright and flashy fanfare to the season. Other seasonal favorites include, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," "Joy to the World," "O Come All Ye Faithful," and many more.
In addition to the Symphony Orchestra, the special evening of music will feature The Southern Chorale, Concert Choir, Southern Miss Men, Women's Choir, Spirit of Southern, The Southern BelleTones, The Hattiesburg Choral Union, and local choral groups from Sumrall, Forrest County Agricultural and Pearl River Central High Schools. In total, there are more than 500 musicians involved on the program.
General admission is $18 for adults and $10 for students and children. Tickets may be purchased in advance from the Southern Miss Ticket Office, 601.266.5418, www.southernmisstickets.com. Tickets will also be available at door, but patrons are encouraged to get tickets early as this event often sells out.
