HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Charles Dickens classic will be making its debut as a musical Thursday night.
Hattiesburg Civic Light Orchestra will perform "A Christmas Carol" as a musical at the Saenger Theatre in downtown Hattiesburg.
The show will run through Saturday evening with an encore performance on Sunday afternoon.
"A classic Christmas Story from Victorian England," said Robert Mulholland, director of the show. "But this is the first version, we think ever, to use Christmas carols to actually tell the story. We use mostly Dickens words and we supplement it with 24 of your favorite Christmas Carols."
Patrons are encouraged to bring a new toy or a stuffed animal with them as a donation to the Hattiesburg Police Department's "Hearts of Hope Program," which provides toys to local children who are victims of domestic violence or who may have lost a loved one.
