Today's viewpoint: Our veterans

Joe Sciortino Joe Sciortino

Happy Veterans Day to all of you who have served our great country with your military service.

I was looking online and was glad to see so many businesses offering discounts and perks to the U.S. military to celebrate and thank them for their service.

November 11 was originally chosen as the official day for Veterans Day to celebrate the ending of World War I. As you may know Germany signed an armistice with the Allies that signaled the end of the war at 11am on the 11th of November 1918. And since then, this day has become a day to thank and celebrate the brave men and women who put our lives, our well-being and our safety ahead of their own.

Thank you to these brave men and women and their families who have sacrificed and put everything on the line to protect our nation from those who wish to harm us or take away our freedom and liberties.  You are truly deserving our sincere gratitude.

This is today's viewpoint.
