Hattiesburg to host 33rd annual Veterans Day Program

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hub City will say a special thank you Wednesday to the men and women who have served in the nation's armed forces.

The Hattiesburg Veterans Committee will host the 33rd annual Veterans Day Program at Hattiesburg Veterans Park.

The event, which begins at 11 a.m., will feature speeches from various dignitaries, live entertainment and the announcement of the city's Veteran of the Year.

Before the program begins, the local chapter of the Armed Forces Top Enlisted Association will host an annual Veterans Day Parade.

It will include a half-dozen marching bands, floats and several military vehicles.

The parade will make its way down Hardy Street and will end up at Veterans Park.

Also involved in the Veterans Day holiday is a group of Air Force ROTC students from The University of Southern Mississippi.

The cadets of Detachment 432 are taking part in an annual 24-hour vigil at the Veterans Memorial, which will end just before the Veterans Day Program begins.

More than two dozen cadets are taking individual half-hour shifts standing guard during that vigil.
