JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Saint Elmo Baptist Church in Laurel celebrated 120 years of service.
Saint Elmo Missionary Baptist Church is the oldest African American missionary Baptist church in the area.
With a precious heritage over a century and two decades, Saint Elmo was established in 1865 and in 2014, Pastor Richard Ward was called as the 11th minister to provide spiritual leadership to the historic congregation.
Pastor Marvin Chapman from Old Palestine Missionary Baptist church in Hebron, Mississippi led the anniversary service.
The theme of the anniversary was "The Lord Has Done Great Things For Us: Deuteronomy 2:7".
The anniversary service was held at Saint Elmo at 512 South 6th Avenue in Laurel, Mississippi at 3:00 p.m.
