PINE BELT - The presidential election is a year away but there are still important races and initiatives on the ballot in South Mississippi this week.
The polls will open across our great state at 7 a.m. tomorrow and will stay open until 7 p.m.
Many of us tend to complain when what is happening in our community does not meet our approval. Whether you support or have a complaint about current leadership, please take part in holding our leaders accountable by voting and vote for those candidates who you believe will take needed actions.
You may be growing tired of us reminding you about getting out to vote, but it's because the percentage of registered voters who came out last election in August was low at 30%. That means that over two-thirds of all registered voters stayed home.
Imagine if you lived where you were not be allowed to vote because of your age, your race, your gender or your religion? This is one of our most valuable rights as Americans.
Consider the hardship faced by so many to win your right to vote. Honor their sacrifice and show up to make your voice heard.
If you are currently not registered to vote, please do so soon!
Mississippi's presidential primary on March 8 will be here before you know it.
This is today's viewpoint.
