HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hattiesburg Fire Department recognized some of its best and bravest personnel Thursday night.

The department hosted an awards and promotion ceremony at the Police and Fire Training Academy.

Three fire department personnel were promoted, while two others, Daniel Robinson and Jeff Morgan, received commendations for bravery.

The department's Firefighter of the Year, William Lewis, also received honors.

"It makes (the honorees and those being promoted) feel appreciated, because a lot of things they do, the media never hears about it, the public never hears about it, and it goes unsaid," said Paul Presley, chief of the Hattiesburg Fire Department.

HFD currently has 89 certified personnel.
