HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Some low-income Hattiesburg residents will soon benefit from a new, and free, energy-saving program being offered by Mississippi Power Company.
It is called the Neighborhood Efficiency Program and it can save money on power bills for some residents.
On Thursday night, a kick-off event was held at the Sherrill Community Center.
The program offers home energy surveys and direct installation of energy-saving measures, at no cost, to qualified customers.
"We have one of our home energy auditors come out to do a walk-through audit, which takes about 45 minutes to an hour," said Benjamin Doughman, energy efficiency team leader for Mississippi Power Company. "And then based on the condition of the home and what we recommend, we then schedule a contractor to come out at a later date, two or three weeks later, and they come out and do the H-VAC tune-up, or the insulation or the duct sealing, depending on what is required in the home."
