HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A group of Pine Belt children are using a Halloween art project to encourage breast cancer patients at Hattiesburg Clinic.

Kangaroo Pouch Child Care's kids painted over 25 pumpkins pink this month. Anyone who gets a mammogram at Hattiesburg Clinic on Friday will get one of the pumpkins to take home.

Owner and director of Kangaroo Pouch Child Care Marga Townsend said many of the daycare workers are affected by the disease, so this project has a special meaning to her and her staff.

"Our children need to learn compassion and to care and to give things, to do things that aren't important to us but are important to others," Townsend said.
