HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi state flag has been removed from the University of Southern Mississippi's campus.

University of Southern Mississippi President Rodney Bennett ordered that the flag be removed from campus and replaced with the American flag Wednesday morning, according to David Tisdale, a Senior Writer for the University's Communications Department.

Tisdale would not confirm if the removal of the flag was temporary or permanent. Tisdale said that a statement would be officially released later Wednesday afternoon.
