National Guard's Southern Strike begins Sunday

CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) - Camp Shelby will play a small role in a National Guard-based, combat training exercise which begins Sunday.

Most of Southern Strike 2015 will take place at the Gulfport Readiness Training Center.

And it will involve about 2,000 active-duty and reserve service personnel from all branches of the armed forces.

The 4th annual exercise will feature counter-insurgency, close-air support and maritime special operations events.

It will last about two weeks.
