A man was killed Tuesday during an ATV accident in the New Union Community of Marion County.
Gerald Greer, 67, was pronounced dead at Marion General Emergency Room Tuesday evening.
"Mr. Greer did have a pre-existing medical condition, but he died as a result from his injuries sustained in the wreck," said Marion County Coroner Norma Williamson.
Shortly after 5 p.m. the Marion County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene of the wreck just off New Union Road in central Marion County.
"He was ejected from the ATV and went through a wooden fence and struck a piece of farm equipment," said Marion County Sheriff Berkley Hall. "The accident was just that, it was an accident and we don't see any reason to investigate further."
"This is a tragedy, and an awful thing, and we just want to send our prayers to the family," said Hall.
Greer was found by his son-in-law who was driving a tractor nearby, and he was located within minutes of the incident.
According to Hall, an air ambulance was called, but due to the state of the patient he was transported by ground to Marion General where he was later pronounced dead.
