USM recognizes National College Alcohol Awareness Week

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - This week is National College Alcohol Awareness week.

On the campus of Southern Miss, members of the behavior and alcohol research laboratory at USM is holding activities Monday and Tuesday to help students better understand the effects of harmful alcohol use and the benefits of safe drinking strategies.

A booth has been set up at the R. C. Cook student union so students will learn how much alcohol they are actually consuming in their favorite beverages, and the potential associated health effects.

"We want students to be safe, the last thing we want to hear about on the news is somebody getting hurt as a result of their drinking,"
Kray Scully Counseling Psychology PHD student at USM said. "Basically what we're trying to do here today is trying to promote safe drinking behaviors and above all having a designated driver while drinking as well."
