HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Among the highlights of USM's 2015 Homecoming celebration, seven of the university's most distinguished alumni will be inducted into the USM's Alumni Association Hall of Fame Friday, including NFL quarterback Brett Favre.
According to a USM press release, the banquet and ceremony will take place in the Grand Ballroom of the Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg campus at 6:30 p.m.
Favre attended Southern Miss, where he excelled as the starting quarterback for four years and set several school records. Favre was chosen by the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL draft and the next year, he led the Green Bay Packers to victory in Super Bowl XXXI, according to the press release.
After playing with the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings, he retired after the 2010 season. In 2015, Favre was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame as one of the greatest players in Green Bay's storied history.
Favre and wife, Deanna, began a charity outreach called Favre 4 Hope Foundation and more than $7 million has been donated to charities to aid disadvantaged and disabled children in Mississippi and Wisconsin.
In 1987, the Southern Miss Alumni Hall of Fame was established to recognize those whose contributions have helped the university progress, according to the press release.
